Visus estother (view is the path)
The Visus est ter (from Latin, «Sight is the Way»), visualizes the invisible machine of reading, the non-linearity of the eye movement in the process of understanding the text. The letters spread over the white plane of the leaf, as if they had lost their lines, form the contours of the Latin phrase «view is the way».
The visual noise of the letters triggers additional eye movements (saccades) — the viewer has to make an invisible route from one letter to another, adding missing fragments. The tension created by the search activates hidden patterns of perception that show that reading is a chain of lock-ups and rapid leaps from one point to another, and the readability of the text depends not only on the form of the letters, but also on their spatial organization, the inter-letter interval and the rhythm of the fixings. In this way, my poster tematizes the very process of collecting letters in words and simulates the visual experience of the audience.
