Description
For the data visualization project, we used the dataset «Winter Park Activities under the Jurisdiction of the Moscow Department of Culture» from the Open Data Portal, available at here.
There is a reason for this choice: when friends and I decide which park to visit, disagreements often arise because we have different preferences when it comes to winter leisure activities.
I analyzed this dataset partly so that we could choose winter activity locations without arguing for the rest of the winter.
The snowmen decided to try all the winter activities in Moscow and create a ranking of the best.
I sent ChatGPT the names of all the columns and asked it to suggest the most useful charts for analysis and any potentially interesting correlations. Some of these suggestions made it into the project.
Four types of charts were used:
- Pie Chart
- Stacked Bar Chart
- Column Chart
- Scatter Plot
Colors
To decide on the color palette, I generated a thematic illustration using Recraft in the chosen style and then edited the image with Nano Banana. The image quality was enhanced using Topaz Gigapixel.
Recraft Prompt: snowmen ice skating on the lake with snowy landscape around them, everything is blue or white, red accents
Nano Banana Prompt: snowmen are skiing, same color, different composition

The primary colors for the custom chart theme were extracted from this image using Adobe Color.
I asked ChatGPT to write code to create my own theme using the seaborn library.
Prompt: Write code to create a custom theme in seaborn that includes these colors: #F0FCF7 — background #56B2A2 — primary color #9B0404 — accent color #AFF6D9 — highlight #460606 — text color
What kind of objects are most common in Moscow parks?
Snowmen love various winter pastimes—what is the most popular among Muscovites?
Analysis showed the expected results: Moscow has the most natural hills, followed by ice rinks in second place.
Price is the top priority
Snowmen don’t have pockets, so like many capital city residents, they prefer free seats.
For the delight of snowmen and Moscow residents, most activities are free of charge. Sokolniki Park is the absolute winner, while Izmailovsky Park, Mitino Park, Kuzminki-Lyublino, Fili, and Vorontsovo Estate make up the top five leaders.
Where can I warm up?
You don’t need to warm up after playing in the cold with snowmen; after all, they are made of snow! But sometimes it is very important for people that where they are skiing or skating, there are warm changing rooms. This map shows which parks have more facilities with heated changing rooms.
Based on our analysis, we recommend that Moscow residents and visitors who enjoy warmer weather choose parks such as the N. E. Bauman Culture and Recreation Garden, Kuzminki Park, Tushinsky Park, Severnoye Tushino Park, Sokolniki Park, and Tagansky Park for leisure.
